Notes

1. Two slightly divergent copies of this document are extant. Alternate readings and possible readings for words that are obscured in copy A due to the condition of the paper are taken from copy B and indicated with brackets in the Persian transcription. Significant differences are noted in the translation. [BACK]

2. Although each seal presumably has an inscription, none are visible in the copy. Copy B is unsealed. [BACK]

3. The reduplication of mauzaʿ here is a scribal error. [BACK]

4. Based on context, Hasan appears to be the same person as Ahsan mentioned in the 1693 document from the same collection. [BACK]

5. A possible alternate reading is patil-giri, holding of the office of patil [BACK]

6. Village Ravdhal is named in copy B of the document. Copy A only lists 3 villages although the heading notes that 4 villages were granted for deshmukhi in the label. [BACK]

7. Copy B names village Latvan (لات ون) instead of Kotwal Buzurg; in copy A it is possible that Latvan was altered to Kotwal. [BACK]
