Order of a Mughal official to the revenue officials of Dhar reconfirming a revenue grant to Purshottam Das and his descendants
The revenue officials (mutasaddis) of district (pargana) Dhar are informed about villages, land and trees that were granted to Purshottam Das and his descendants as charitable revenue (inʿam) and tax-free land (nankar) by the late Nawazish Khan. The verso provides the specific details of the grant.

Malwa shall know that
2at this time the account of the loyalty, the efforts to populate [the land], and
the good service in that place of
Purshottam [Das]
chaudri came to be known:
that
3in the completion of the works of the state he does not excuse himself. And
according to the sanad of the late
Nawazish Khan,
4the village Ahu, etc. – ten villages and
five hundred and fifty
bighas of land and mango trees etc.
as per the details on the zimn –
5are allotted for the inʿam and nankar of him and his sons
in accordance with the nishan of
Murad Bakhsh
and the former jagirdars.
6We also grant the aforementioned villages and the abovementioned trees etc.
7for the inʿam of him and his sons.
It is necessary that the noted amount
8is returned to him in the former manner so that he shall possess the tax revenue of
that [land] from year to year [and] season to season and
9shall cause extreme diligence in good wishes and good service to be
exhibited.
10In this matter know it settled, [and] according to the order, let it be done. Written on the date
